Do what you love

This may be a personal post, but so be it. We left Friday night for Melbourne, Australia and have been busy the past few days with family. Now settled in the CBD (Central Business District) for the next three weeks, I hope to share some highlights of this fabulous city. Seriously, Melbourne is one of my favorite places. I have been blessed with opportunities to travel the world, but I could easily reside here for a good while. I have so many wonderful memories of this place all because I quit my job in San Francisco to move to Australia. I had a close friend from home living in Melbourne and he convinced me to make the move because he knew I would love it. After a month long sail down the coast of California with my dad, I had my family’s blessing and I was off. I loved San Francisco and I enjoyed my job, but I craved a change. I wanted more for myself. Travelling has always been a priority for me and my goal is to see the world, so Melbourne was just a start.

Melbourne is such an exciting city. So much culture, unique architecture, and so accessible. Being here reminds me of why I came in the first place. I was able to make the drastic life changing move on my own. Even the move to Singapore was a huge life altering step, but because of my initial move to Melbourne, I felt comfortable knowing I could do it. You read it all the time by people that have led successful lives, “do what makes you happy and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Steve Jobs even said, “the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” So there is my advice. Enjoy what you do and you will have a happy life. I will keep you updated with fun photos and posts around the city to hopefully motivate you to make some plans!

Last night we caught the footy game, AFL (Australian Football League), at the MCG Stadium and it was truly amazing. I have watched countless games on television, but nothing compares to the real thing. We barrack (or root in American English) for Essendon and watched them play Carlton. If you haven’t heard of footy, I suggest you watch a game. It is one of the most athletically challenging sports to play. These guys have absolutely no protection from the tackles they endure. They are constantly on the move and they run on average a little over 8 miles per game! To put that into perspective American footballers, particularly cornerbacks and wide receivers, run merely 1.25 miles per game. AFL is always intense and constantly entertaining. Just another reason to love Melbourne!
